The star wanted to find out how long an e-bike is driving with a battery charge. And tested the Turbo Tero X 5.0 from Specialized and the Pathlite: On 8 SUV from Canyon.

When did you last suggested your teen son to go on a bike tour? Did he also react with doors? I tried it that way: “Bike tour with an e-bike?” – “Hm, Joah. What kind of one?” – “Mountain bike.” – “Okay. Fully?” – “Yes, fully.” – “Okay. And where do we go?” – “Once around Hamburg.” – “Is there mountains too?” – “Have you ever seen a mountain in Hamburg?” – “nope.” – “So: next weekend, 100 kilometers, no mountains, are we doing?” – “Okay.”

With the e-bikes around the big city

The green ring leads around Hamburg, around 100 kilometers long, if you do not do yourself – and it is easy to do because the signage is not powerful. To large parts you cycle under trees and through fields, now and then along the highway and once over a sandberg: a large construction site in the south of the city. A ferry trip across the Elbe is also part of it. With the normal touring bike you are traveling six to seven hours. Is that faster on an e-bike?

For my son, I selected the Turbo Tero X 5.0 Specialized brand for my son, which looks a little like a BMX wheel, deeper entry; It shines like a large piece of copper. Fully means it is fully sprung, even under the saddle. When driving, the feeling arises that you cruise across the street, like the rappers in the videos with their large, rocking carts. My son quickly understands 14, what kind of support can be selected, from Eco (little) to Turbo (a lot). The latter is the most fun, of course, especially when starting you seem to be pulled forward with a rubber rope.

I myself decided on the half -sprung model Pathlite: On 8 SUV from Canyon, in Stone Gray. My son has more swing, I have more power: 85 Newton meters of torque, I could hunt ramps.

The challenge we sit down reads: We want to create the entire round with a battery charge. For this it is imperative to choose the ECO support level, turbo or even trail would pull too much juice. We drive clockwise, which is behind the dike because it blows from the west, brings a lot of headwind. With ECO, this is only fun. Only for the last five kilometers do I release the turbo: we literally fly home.

Cycling without complaining

An e-mountain bike is a heavy thing and pulls the way, so it becomes tedious. But: my son doesn’t complain, not even when we cycle completely into the misleading (and back again). A little bit of King of the road he is already driving his copper. The Sandberg mentioned, which we have to cross, a new road, we pack loose, in a small way and with a high frequency. We both reach the goal with a five percent remaining charge after around six hours. Do we do that again? “Nope. Only in the mountains.” We booked for the summer vacation.
