Jan Ullrich does not want to repeat his father’s mistakes

Former Tour-de France winner Jan Ullrich does not want to repeat his father’s mistakes in the family. The 51-year-old gave insight into his private life in an interview in the TV magazine Gala at RTL. Despite the separation, he continued to have a good relationship with his children, Ullrich reported here. “Of course I always try better than doing my father”.
Born in Rostock, he had reported his difficult relationship with his father in his book “Heaven, Hell, Hell, Hell, Hell, Hell and Back to Life”. “I was air for him,” he wrote there. He didn’t want to repeat that.

Ullrich describes his relationship with his children as “thank God, really good. Despite separation”. The ex-cyclist has a total of four children from two relationships. He tries to pay a lot of attention to his children. “I’m super proud of the children and I often tell you that too.” With his three sons he calls every day that his daughter is now a little more difficult to reach. “She already has her own life”.
Jan Ullrich was Germany’s largest cycling star in the late 1990s. A doping scandal ended his career in 2007. He only admitted to having doped years later. After the separation from his wife Sara Steinhauser, a headlined crash on Mallorca – including excessive alcohol and drug use.
