With the help of AI, fraudsters created a fake interview with Andreas Gabalier. The singer himself warns of cyber crime.
Andreas Gabalier (40) had to get to know the dark side of artificial intelligence (AI). As the “Kleine Zeitung” reported, fraudsters had created and published a fake interview using the technology. This made Internet users believe that the singer gave advice on crypto investments. The transcript of the supposedly real conversation was also placed online on one page that was easily confused with the website of the Austrian Radio (ORF).
Folk musician warns of AI fraud
Gabalier said about the fraud, “These are the side effects of our highly praised technical progress.” The folk music star warned to be careful on the Internet and not to believe everything. “The crime is increasing and is becoming more and more treacherous. You just have to be careful not to fall for such a AI bled,” he noted.
The cyber criminals used the so-called “voice cloning” to deceive. AI applications from audio recordings can “learn” and imitate a person’s voice. From this, new sentences and entire conversations can be generated.
These celebrities also draw attention to the fraud stitch
In addition to Gabalier, some other celebrities complain about the abuse of AI technologies to create audio and video content. Hollywood star Tom Hanks (68) clarified last year about advertising, in which a AI clone advertised miracle remedies. In a post that has now been deleted, he made it clear, among other things: “These ads were created without my consent, fraudulent intentions and through artificial intelligence.”
Johnny Depp (61) was already forced to warn his fans of the fraudsters. These “can look and sound as much as my true ego,” he drew his follower and followers aware of the topic.
Scarlett Johansson (40) already spoke out against the abuse of AI. The reason for this was a video in which a fake version of the actress wears a T-shirt with which she shows Kanye West the middle finger. This had previously been noticed by anti -Semitic posts. “We have to denounce the abuse of AI, regardless of what messages it spreads, or we risk losing the reference to reality”.
