King Charles III. And Queen Camilla arrived in Rome for a state visit. The royal couple stays in Italy for four days.

King Charles III. (76) and Queen Camilla (77) arrived in Italy on Monday for a four -day state visit. The British royal couple landed at Ciampino Airport in Rome and was received there by government officials. The trip was eagerly awaited because the monarch was recently briefly in the hospital because of side effects of his cancer treatment. The visit is considered part of the British “Reset” strategy to strengthen relationships with European allies according to Brexit.

The British ambassador in Italy, Lord Llewellyn (59), described the visit as a “historical moment” with “invaluable value” for bilateral relationships. Charles will be the first British monarch to give a speech in front of both chambers of the Italian parliament. “This state visit comes at a crucial time while we redesign our relationships with our European partners,” said Lord Llewellyn.

Full program in Italy

The royal couple will complete a dense program in the next few days. In addition to the meeting with the Italian President Sergio Mattarella (83) and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (48), a state banquet in the Quirinalpalast is also on the program, which fell on Wednesday 20th wedding anniversary of the royal couple. A visit to the Vatican was also originally planned, but was postponed due to the illness of Pope Francis (88).

The military cooperation between Great Britain and Italy is also to be emphasized during the visit, which is to be underlined by a joint flight show by the Italian aerobatic relay “FRECCE TRICOLORI” and the British “Red Arrows”. In the coming days, Charles and Camilla will also visit the Colosseum and deal with the Italian slow food movement. The cultural-loving Royals will also visit places associated with the writers Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) and Lord Byron (1788-1824).

In the historic city of Ravenna, the couple will finally honor the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the province by Allied forces on Thursday. Afterwards, Charles and Camilla go back home.
