Finally peace at pop Olympus: Elton John and Madonna buried their warrior – after more than two decades.
After more than two decades of public taunts, the pop legends Madonna (66) and Elton John (78) have apparently reconciled themselves. The surprising approach took place behind the scenes of the US show “Saturday Night Live”, where Elton John performed as a musical guest at the weekend.
Madonna is happy about reconciliation
Madonna shared her joy about reconciliation: “We finally buried the war of war !!!”, wrote the singer for a photo that shows the two arms in arm. In the post, Madonna remembers a formative concert experience from her youth: she was secretly sneaked out of the house at the time to see Elton John in Detroit live. “This concert changed my life,” said the 66-year-old. “It helped me to understand that it is okay to be different – even necessary.”
It was all the more painful that Elton John later criticized her publicly. “It hurt that someone I admired so much was about myself. I didn’t understand it,” she writes.
When she learned that Elton John will be a guest at “SNL”, she decided to go. But the moment of the confrontation backstage was different than expected: “The first thing he said was: ‘forget me’ – and the wall fell between us,” says Madonna. It was a healing moment that finally resulted in a hug. But that’s not all: Elton John even told her that he wrote a song for her and wanted to work with her. “It was as if the circle would close.”
For decades for a dispute
It remains to be seen whether the musical cooperation will actually become a reality – but the reconciliation of the two music legends is already a small pop wonder. The years of the two go back to 2002 when Elton John Madonna’s James Bond song “Die Another Day” criticized publicly.
The tensions escalated two years later, when he assumed that she was singing at live appearances. The two world stars then repeatedly attacked – sometimes in interviews, sometimes indirectly over social media. “She is such a nightmare,” said Elton John about the singer about the time in an interview.
