On the second day of their state visit in Italy, King Charles and Queen Camilla were welcomed by President Mattarella.
One day after her arrival in Rome, King Charles III. (76) and Queen Camilla (77) officially welcomed Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella (83) on Tuesday morning. In the courtyard of his office, the Quirinalpalast, Mattarella and his daughter Laura (58) received the royal couple, which was accompanied by a mounted presidential parade.
King Charles was dressed in a dark blue pinstripe suit with a patterned blue tie, Camilla caused a splash of color in a cornflower blue coat dress. She combined the “Prince Albert’s Sapphire Brooch”, a blue Sapphire brooch that Queen Victoria (1819-1901) belonged and is said to be worth 8 million pounds (around 9.3 million euros).
Spectacular overflight in state colors
During the official greeting of the Italian aerobatic relay “FRECCE TRICOLORI” and the “Red Arrows” of the British Royal Air Force in the respective national colors. Then the president and the king came together for a private conversation, while Laura Mattarella led Queen Camilla through the palace.
“It was a pleasure to meet President Mattarella in the Quirinalpalast”. “Today’s visit recognizes the warm and special relationship as well as the historical connections between our two countries.”
According to the British media, Charles and Camilla put down a wreath on the grave of the unknown soldier on the altar Della Patria on Tuesday afternoon and visit the Colosseum. In the evening, the royal couple takes part in a reception with members of the British-Italian community.
State banquet for the wedding day
The rest of the four -day state visit program in Italy is also tautly planned. Charles will be the first British monarch to give a speech in front of both chambers of the Italian parliament. On Wednesday evening, Sergio Mattarella will hold a state banquet for the British monarch and his wife in the Quirinal Palace. The couple celebrates their 20th wedding anniversary that day. A visit to the Vatican was also originally planned, but was postponed due to the illness of Pope Francis (88).
In the historic city of Ravenna, the couple will finally honor the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the province by Allied forces on Thursday. Afterwards, Charles and Camilla go back home.
