King Charles III. the Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni met in Rome. The mood was almost left out.
“The third day of her majesties in Rome has started! In the beautiful Villa Doria Pamphilj, the king met the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni”. You can see several photos of the meeting at the Italian seat of the government where Charles (76) and the Prime Minister (48) obviously have fun with each other.
The British monarch was welcomed with all the protocol honor. In front of the historical villa there was an honorary guard who inspected the king before his conversation with the politician. The meeting takes place as part of a four-day trip to Italy that leads Charles and Queen Camilla (77) to Rome and the city of Ravenna.
Historical event is imminent
Before the king and the Prime Minister withdrew for a private conversation, Charles introduced his hostess to his delegation. , among other things, is the British Foreign Minister David Lammy, who accompanies the royal couple throughout the trip.
Giorgia Meloni, who has been the first woman at the head of an Italian government since October 2022, leads a coalition of right -wing populist parties.
The meeting is part of an extensive program of the royal visit. One of the other highlights of the day is a special historical event: King Charles will be the first British monarch to speak in front of both houses of the Italian parliament – the Chamber of Deputy and the Senate of the Republic. This honor underlines the close connection between the United Kingdom and Italy despite the changed political landscape after the Brexit.
20th wedding anniversary
In the evening, the king and the queen will celebrate her 20th wedding anniversary as part of a festive state banket in Rome. On this occasion, numerous leading personalities of Italian public life are expected. Charles and Camilla married on April 9, 2005 in a civil ceremony in the Guildhall in Windsor.
The royal visit also shows how King Charles continues the diplomatic tradition of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) by combining personal milestones such as his wedding anniversary with official duties.
