After her cancer, Olivia Munn returned to the camera. At first she felt unsafe in the sex scenes with Jon Hamm.
Olivia Munn (44) opened openly about her fears of presenting her body in front of the camera after her cancer and several operations. The actress, which can be seen in the new Apple TV+series “Your Friends and Neighbors” alongside Jon Hamm (54), admitted that her numerous scenes initially unsettled her, especially with intimate scenes.
“I was really nervous to shoot sex scenes because I have a lot of scars,” said Munn. “Scars that you can see in clothing, and scars that you would not notice unless I was completely naked.” It was particularly challenging for the 44-year-old that she had her final of a total of five breast cancer operations just a few days before the start of the shoot.
Security gradually came back
Although she enjoyed the support of her colleagues and the crew, Munn was initially difficult to overcome her uncertainties. “I felt unsafe, but every time I did it, I felt better,” revealed the serial actress. With the help of an intimacy coordinator on the set, she has slowly made progress. However, there was no option to do without the scenes because it could be shown the dynamics between the characters: “Your only connection is through sex. I wanted the scenes to feel like sex scenes – I wanted them to be urgent and intense and not hold anything back.”
In “Your Friends and Neighbors” Olivia Munn plays a divorced woman named Sam who has a secret affair with the unknown hedge-fund manager Andrew “Coop” Cooper (Jon Hamm). In an earlier, she pulled parallels between her life and her role in the series. “I was on points where I felt that everything I love was taken away from me,” she said. “And I have the feeling that I am about to lose everything that I worked hard for.”
Munn, who has two children with her husband John Mulaney (42) – son Malcolm Hiệp (3) and daughter Méi June (7 months) – made public in early 2024 that she was ill. Since the diagnosis, she has undergone several operations, including a double mastectomy – the decrease in both breasts -, a lymph node removal and a hysterectomy, the removal of the uterus.
