Ed Sheeran: He builds his pub into the garden

In many points, the life of world stars like Ed Sheeran hardly resembles that of an average citizen – but superstars also have longings for normality. The British singer-songwriter has now created a special retreat: there is now a complete pub in his garden. Sheeran chatted about this extraordinary construction project.

“You can never really relax as you could in my teenage years when you went to a pub to take steam,” said the “Eyes Closed” singer in an interview. The problem: As a world star, Sheeran can hardly visit a restaurant undisturbed. He found the solution on his own property: “There was a dilapidated barn on my property. I thought we could simply turn it into a pub.”

The four-time Grammy winner was very authentic: “I bought an old pub facility on Ebay, so the counter and so on,” he revealed. The project quickly grew beyond a simple pub. A tunnel leads there and in addition to the pub there is also a music room for us a cinema. When naming his private restaurant, the singer became sentimental: “Lancaster Lock”, a tribute to the birth names of his mother and mother of his wife.

In his private pub, the musician also hoard special souvenirs: “I also collect film props, I have them all there.” The pub is not the only special building on Sheeran’s estate in England. As the musician in the podcast revealed, he also had a chapel built on his property.

The superstar emphasized that these private retreats are important for him and his family: “I know that it sounds strange to build an infrastructure on your property so that you don’t have to leave it … but there are certain moments that you just want to spend with your family, especially with something like Christmas.”
