Sarah Michelle Gellar shares birthday mail: congratulations for late Shannen Doherty

Sarah Michelle Gellar (47) is reminiscent of her late friend Shannen Doherty (1971-2024). The “Charmed” star would have turned 54 on April 12th. In July 2024 she died after a long -term fight against her cancer.

“Since I remembered, we have celebrated our birthdays together,” wrote Gellar on Saturday, which shows the two friends at a birthday party. “This year I will continue this tradition and celebrate in honor. I am so glad that we were all together last year that day without knowing that it would be the last time. Happy birthday.”

In addition to the nostalgic photo, the “Buffy” actress also shared a previously unpublished video of the last birthday party in 2024. In the clip you can see how the two actresses are given a birthday cake and blow out the candles on it. In the background you can hear your friends sing a birthday song. Since Sarah Michelle Gellar has her birthday only two days after Shannen Doherty, they traditionally celebrated together.

Just three months after the happy video, Doherty died of her breast cancer. The disease was first diagnosed in 2015 and went to remission two years later. In 2020 she announced that cancer had returned. In 2023 she finally announced that her brain and bones were affected. “I’m not finished with life yet,” said the actress at the time.

In addition to Gellar, Doherty’s former “Charmed” colleague Rose McGowan (51) also spoke out for his birthday. “You are missing, you will be loved,” she wrote in a picture of the deceased and marked Doherty’s Instagram account.

When the news of Shannen Doherty’s death became known last year, Gellar already published a moving farewell to her long -time girlfriend. “How do you find the right words to summarize around 30 years of friendship? I keep remembering that it only hurts so much because there was so much love,” it said.
