In Germany she was primarily known for her role in the TV series “The House on Eaton Place”-now British actress Jean Marsh has died at the age of 90. Marsh died peacefully in her bed, as her confidant Michael Lindsay Hogg from the British news agency PA announced on Sunday.
He praised the actress as “instinctively sensitive person who was loved by everyone who met her”.
Marsh worked as a theater and film actress and also worked as a screenwriter. The idea for “Das Haus am Eaton Place” (original title: “Upstairs, Downstairs”) about the Bellamy family and her servants in the early 20th century came from her and her colleague Eileen Atkins.
With her series, Jean Marsh provided inspiration for “Downton Abbey”
Marsh himself embodied the housemaid Rose Buck in the series from the 1970s. In the 2010s she returned to her role for several sequels. The series is considered an inspiration for “Downton Abbey”.
In addition, Marsh had numerous guest roles in series such as “Die Waltons” (1977) and “Murder is her hobby” (1993). In 2012 she received a knight’s order for her services to acting.
