Princess Charlène and Prince Albert II caused a sensation at the final of the Monte Carlo ATP Masters at the weekend. Together with the niece of the Prince, Mélanie-Antoinette Costello de Massy, they presented the trophy to Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz. Today’s Princess Charlène of Monaco was born on January 25, 1978 as Charlene Wittstock in Zimbabwe. As a child, she was a “wild catch”, she recalled in a later interview. It showed early that the girl was a swimming talent. In the 1990s, the family moved to Benoni, near Johannesburg and since then Charlène had been in South Africa. At the age of 18 she won the national championships. In 2000 she competed at the Olympic Games and made it on the 100- and 200-meter route in the back swimming under the top 20. Together with three teammates, she became fifth in the 4×100-meter layout. In the same year she met the then attendant Albert at a swimming competition in Monaco. She finished her career in 2007.

But in the past few months, the couple have made many appearances on which they looked much more relaxed than before. Most recently, they showed themselves together with their twins hereditary prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella (10) in the French community of Matignon as a family unit. The princely couple appeared fashionably tailored to their children.
