Men and selfcare: Fitness expert Erik Jäger explains the new trend towards self-care.

For a long time, Beauty and Selfcare were considered a women’s work – now more and more men are discovering care, styling and cosmetics. “I think many men understood that it is completely okay to take care of themselves – and that care has nothing to do with vanity,” explains fitness expert and personal trainer Erik Jäger.

Jäger has made a name for himself as a “capital coach” on social media and has already trained numerous celebrities. In the meantime he gives Peloton Peloton courses for cycling and strength training and is an expert for Gillette Body & Intimate. A current survey by the razor manufacturer underpins the growing self-care movement in men. In an interview, Jäger explains why body shaving is becoming increasingly important and how men can set realistic destinations in terms of dream body.

Whether care or styling: men pick up at beauty topics. Why is that?

Erik Jäger: I think many men understood that it is completely okay to take care of themselves – and that care has nothing to do with vanity. It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin. Whether skin care, shaving or styling: if you appreciate yourself, you also radiate that. And that’s exactly where well -being begins, for example with a well -kept body shave, which for many simply belongs.

Nevertheless, the body shaving in many men is still a topic that is not discussed?

Jäger: Maybe because we have learned men that many hair is male? Which is naturally nonsense. In my opinion, it is also not about how much or how little body hair you have – but that it feels good for yourself. I personally combine trimming and shaving, depending on the point with special tools.

Shaved armpits are now normal for many men. Why is it no longer enough for many men to shave the armpit – why the whole upper body?

Jäger: Because the body feeling can change positively after shaving. Especially when it comes to sports or summer, it makes a difference whether you can train freely or stick the shirt on the upper body. Many notice: less hair, less friction, less smell. I can absolutely understand that. I myself like it in some places, they prefer to be trimmed on others.

The Gillette survey shows that many shave their bodies to increase their well-being and less to hear compliments. Is that surprising?

Jäger: To be honest, I wouldn’t have thought that there were so many. In my daily work, I often see that men tend to take care of themselves, but to see this in such clear numbers is strong. That is a lived selfcare.

As a fitness trainer, you are constantly confronted with body pictures. How strongly shape the ideals of beauty men these days?

Jäger: Very strong, I think. In my time as a personal trainer, I noticed this, especially among young men. You see a trained body on social media and believe that is the standard. For years of work or simply a good recording angle is often behind – or they are influencers who do it full -time and can accordingly invest a lot of time in their bodies. I think instead of running after an ideal picture, you should rather listen to yourself and develop routines that do you good.

What are realistic goals in terms of dream body for you. Which errors do you meet again and again when it comes to abdominal muscles, fat loss and training?

Jäger: Many think that a six -pack is the ultimate goal. But if you only train for it, you quickly lose motivation. A realistic and much nicer goal is to feel comfortable in his body – walking through the day, sleeping well, having fun moving. Everything else often comes by the way.

But how difficult is it really to get a visible six -pack – and even more important: to keep it?

Jäger: A visible six -pack is primarily a question of the body fat share – and it is strongly influenced by genetics. Therefore, a six -pack is not a direct proof of health or fitness. Three factors are decisive: nutrition, training and regeneration. You need a moderate calorie deficit over time, holistic strength training and endurance in the basic area. And an often forgotten point: stress. An increased cortisol release results in fat storage. So you should try to enable the body to actively regenerate. And you have to say honestly: a permanently visible six -pack requires a lot of discipline and usually also waiver. I myself try to keep my training, my diet and my regeneration in balance – it works in phases, but sometimes it is also healthy to let it grind a little.

What do you advise men who feel uncomfortable in your body?

Jäger: First of all: you are not alone. And: Not everything has to change overnight. Start small. Maybe with a walk, a workout or with a selfcare. Sounds banal – but if you look at yourself in the mirror and feel well -groomed, that changes your attitude. Many influencers live fitness and selfcare full -time. Of course, you have more time for it than others. But everyone can find their own routine: during training, nutrition and body shaving.
