“Bares for Rares” star Waldi Lehnertz publishes his second thriller – and reveals why a detective could also be in him.

At the estimation day on his farm, antique dealers Siggi Malich discovered a body – buried under one pillar. The dead man looks confusingly similar to him. Was he the goal himself? Or is there something in the suitcase full of junk that he just bought the man? Together with girlfriend Doro and art connoisseur Anton, Siggi goes on a dangerous search for traces … that is the output situation of Waldi Lehnertz ‘(58) New crime novel “Murder on the estimated day”, which is playing again in his homeland, the Eifel, and appears on April 15 at Rowohlt Verlag. His first work, “Murder in the Antiques Shop” (2024), became a Spiegel bestseller.

In an interview with the news agency Spot on News, Tausendsassa Waldi Lehnertz-known as “80-euro-Waldi” from the TV show “Bares for Rares” (ZDF)-reveals what prior knowledge should have from the first book, how much of his own experience as an antique dealer this time is in the thriller and what makes life in the Eifel so special.

Her first antiques thriller “Murder in the Antique Shop” was a great success. What can the readers of “Murder on the estimated day” expect? And what prior knowledge from the first book helps with reading enjoyment?

Waldi Lehnertz: Yes, that’s right, he even became a mirror bestseller and I am particularly proud of that. No prior knowledge is needed for “murder on the day of estimation”, but many protagonists of the first book are of course again there.

How much of your own experience as an antique dealer is in history this time?

Lehnertz: It is particularly important to me that the content is as authentic as possible. Many anecdotes played something like that in my shop. Of course, they were rewritten for the book. But whoever was there usually recognizes again. The story in the first book, when I revived the little dog, took place in the same way.

What inspired you to immerse yourself in the world of Siggi Malich again and this time to get it into an even more tricky murder case?

Lehnertz: In fact, you experience a lot when you have been in business for ten years. Since I like to take part in all nonsense, there is a lot to tell. That is certainly enough for ten more volumes. To be honest, I am just as curious as my Siggi Malich and could have imagined very well to become a detective.

How did you use the atmosphere of an antique shop to increase the tension and the secret?

Lehnertz: Anyone who has ever been to my shop knows that everything can be found here that everything looks angular and mysterious, so everyone can experience stories with a bit of imagination and imagine them (laughs).

Her crime novels belong to the genre “Cosy Crime” such as the Eberhofer thrillers by Rita Falk or “Miss Merkel” by David Safier. What do you think makes this genre so popular?

Lehnertz: It is important to me that it is written easily and entertaining. Humor shouldn’t be missing either, so you can enjoy a relaxing reading time. Even if many read the book in one, it is not bad to put it aside from time to time. You are always in it quickly, so that the thread never tears off.

Are there certain challenges when writing crime novels that you particularly inspire or prevent as an antique expert?

Lehnertz: Not really, I am what I am and tell fresh from the liver. Miriam, my co-author, then arranges it a little and formulates it in such a way that it is understandable for not Eifel. I think we are a great team and the result speaks for itself.

Your crime novels play in the Eifel. How would you describe life in the Eifel away from the hustle and bustle of big cities? What do you love most about it?

Lehnertz: Everyone knows everyone here and everyone is a little bit on each other. You help yourself, it is friendly, but also says the opinion and sometimes quite violent. However, since the Eifeler can also be very stubborn, it sometimes takes time for you to get along again.

They are not only antique dealers and author, but also artists and musicians. What was the moment when you realized that these creative forms of expression are as important to you as your work as a dealer?

Lehnertz: There was no moment. I just like to try everything out and I am for everyone as long as it is fun. Sometimes I wonder about myself (laughs).

As someone who meets so many people and hears stories, is there any advice or wisdom that particularly helped you in life?

Lehnertz: For me there is no wisdom, but it is important for me that you deal with respect. That you don’t take yourself too seriously and always speaks of a half -full glass, even if it seems to be empty.

What actually became of your ESC plans?

Lehnertz: The ESC was an attempt, of course I have “understand fun?” Leaned far out of the window. But I did everything I could to have happened. But even if that didn’t work, it was a mega experience to record its own song. Although singing is not my core competence now, it is a mistake to sing about people, especially if not every sound is hit 100 percent and you are still celebrated.

What are your plans for the future? Will there be more books or maybe another season of “Waldis Welt”?

Lehnertz: Now I’m looking forward to my second thriller. And that there is a separate program “Waldis Welt”, which will run on ZDF from April 20, the next big highlight for me. Of course I feel particularly honored and am damn proud of it. “Cash for Rares” is and remains my heart, and I will continue to paint, sing and podcast. There are also some other projects that I would like to implement. For example, I would like to play at the “Celebrity Dart WM”. I have already been able to win the German Dart-Profi Florian Hempel as a partner, now I only have to be called by the organizer (laughs).
