How did genes Hackman and his wife spend the last days before their death? The police now reveal further details.
Almost two months after the death of Hollywood star Gene Hackman (1930-2025) and his wife Betsy Arakawa (1959-2025), the police published new videos and photos from the house. The recordings of the inspection of Santa Fe County not only reveal a big disorder in many rooms, but also a particularly emotional scene.
Dog was calm next to Betsy Arakawa’s body
As a bodycam video shows, one of the two surviving dogs guarded Betsy Arakawa’s body. On February 26, police officers found the couple and Shepherd Zinna dead in their villa in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The film material, which is taken up under other “TMZ”, shows the police when entering the house. An official watched one of the surviving pets who were still sitting next to Arakawa. He said the dog “guarded her” and “seems pretty friendly”.

The US magazine “People” had previously reported that the two-time Oscar winner and his wife had recently been buried. His three children, son Christopher and his daughters Elizabeth and Leslie, were therefore among the guests of the private funeral service in the small group, which is said to have taken place in Santa Fe.
Gene Hackman: Numerous speculations after the tragic find
The find of the two corpses at the end of February had caused a lot of speculation, as it was initially unclear how and when the couple died. The official cause of death was then announced in March. During a press conference it was announced that Arakawa was last seen alive in public on February 11th. The authorities assumed that this was also their day of death. Later, however, the responsible sheriff explained that Arakawa probably called a medical service on February 12. According to the forensic medicine, it died as a result of an infection with the Hantavirus.
Hackman, on the other hand, probably only died after his wife on February 18. The actor’s pacemaker recorded his heartbeat for the last time. He died of the consequences of heart disease.
