Harvey Weinstein has long suffered from serious health problems. Last year alone, he was transferred to the hospital several times for pneumonia, a diagnosis of leukemia and for heart surgery. Weinstein, whose case had triggered the worldwide #Metoo debate, was initially convicted in New York and later in California for sex crimes. However, due to procedural errors, an appellate court raised the New York judgment of 2020 over 23 years in prison. The case is currently being completely reopened.

Because Weinstein was sentenced to a further 16 years in prison in a separate process in Los Angeles in 2023, he continues to be in prison despite the resumption procedure. He has already appealed against this judgment.
