Wolfgang Niersbach and his wife separated after only 14 months of marriage. The ex-DFB president suffers from the marriage.
After only 14 months of marriage, it is over: Wolfgang Niersbach (74) and his 23 -year -old wife Marion Popp go separate ways. This was confirmed by the former President of the German Football Association (DFB). Accordingly, the couple separated in December 2024.

The separation came unexpectedly for Niersbach: “It was my wife’s wish. Marion has moved out,” he says to the newspaper. “I am very sorry for the end of our marriage and also hurt very much. I had planned our life together, so we got married in autumn 2023.
Niersbach, who celebrates his 75th birthday in November, suffers from the separation and is not ready for a new relationship. “I’m far from being finished with the separation from my wife,” quotes him “Bild”.
The football official has two adult daughters from his first marriage. Marion Popp was previously married to Marcus Höfl (50), ex-husband by Skistar Maria Höfl-Riesch (40). The two have a 19-year-old son.
