Grief for a trainer legend: Werner Lorant, former coach from 1860 Munich, died at the age of 76.
Trainer legend Werner Lorant is dead: he died at the age of 76 after a serious illness, reporting on Lorant’s sister. Ex-captain Bernd Winkler explains in the report: “This is a very sad news. I was on his birthday last year. He was on the way of improvement. It is now surprising for me that it went so quickly. I was hoping that he would be up again.”
Lorant was the most successful coach of the lion, said Bernd Winkler, “and it will stay that way for a very long time. He turned a dilapidated brand to an association that was accepted throughout football”.
Career as a player and trainer
Werner Lorant, who had previously been active as a Bundesliga player, took over the then third -class Munich club in 1992, and with the club made the promotion to the Bundesliga and the European competition. He trained in 1860 Munich until 2001. He also worked abroad and took over clubs in Turkey, South Korea or Cyprus.
