The film directed by Fernando Meirelles is based on the unthinkable alliance that Pope Benedict XVI forged, played by Anthony Hopkins, with whom Pope Francis was going to be, played by Jonathan Pryce. The documentary led by Italo-Statunidense, Gianfranco Rosi, focuses on the trips that the Supreme Pontiff made in the world and manages to portray Bergoglio’s interest in important issues such as poverty, wars and immigration.

Call me Francisco (2016)
The Miniseries of Daniele Luchetti, starring the Argentine Rodrigo de la Serna, portrays the life of Jorge Bergoglio from his youth to Pope Francis. In the story, which is inspired by real events, they play dark themes of Argentina, such as the time of the dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla. Available in Netflix.

Pope Francis: A man of word
This documentary, directed and written Wim Wenders, talks about the history of the Cardinal of Buenos Aires, turned into the first Pope from South America and the first Jesuit to be appointed Bishop of Rome.
He is the first Pope who chooses Francisco’s name, in honor of San Francisco de Asís (1181-1226), one of the most venerated Christian saints and a reformer who dedicated his life to the ‘sister poverty’. Available at Amazon Prime.
