Since Donald Trump took office, his wife Melania has been little in public. Easter it was time again.

Since Donald Trump (78) started his second term as US president on January 20, 2025, First Lady Melania Trump (54) has only performed a few appearances. The traditional “Easter Egg Roll” in the garden of the White House did not miss it. In a few days, a much more serious appointment will follow: As Trump announced, he will travel to Rome with his wife to attend the funeral of Pope Francis (1936-2025).

The first lady came for the Easter egg roles according to “Page Six” and was at the side of her husband to greet the children to the event. This year there was a lot of criticism of the Easter Monday tradition in the United States. Nevertheless, the children were allowed to roll real eggs over the lawn. The President and First Lady whistled at the same time to give the starting signal.

Melania Trump, who wore a bright trench coat and green pumps, showed up in a good mood and unusually intimate with her husband. The couple held hands and he was even allowed to put kisses on her cheek. In a speech, Donald Trump explained: “Easter is something special. It is one of our favorite days. We honor Jesus Christ. And we will honor Jesus Christ our whole life. Not only now – all our lives.”

Many photos show the First Lady with a smile with children, for whom there were several activities such as a reading corner and eggs and live music during the day.

Melania Trump had confirmed on Good Friday that she would take part in the “Easter Egg Roll”. “This esteemed tradition, which has been rooted in history since 1878, brings America’s children joy, stories and laughter,” she continued. “I look forward to seeing all the bright faces on this memorable day on Monday”.

Travel to Rome announced

The next appearance will have the next appearance at the latest with the burial of Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday at the age of 88 from the consequences of a stroke. Donald Trump wrote on his online platform Truth Social that he would travel to Rome with his wife. “We look forward to being there!” It is also the first announced trip abroad in the new term.

It is not yet clear when Francis is buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. The cardinals want to advise about this on April 22nd in a first meeting. It is currently believed that the funeral could take place on April 25 or 26. First of all, the Pope should be laid out in St. Peter’s Basilica so that the faithful can say goodbye to him.
