Christian Wulff confirms “final separation” by Bettina

There are many couples who are always over and that cannot leave each other. Former Federal President Christian Wulff and his wife Bettina even sealed their reconciliations twice with new wedding celebrations. In March 2023, everything looked like a happy ending in the on-off relationship of the former head of Lower Saxony and the PR consultant. The Wulffs said yes in Hanover – for the third time.

But now everything is over: the 65-year-old and the 51-year-old are no longer a couple. And at least Christian Wulff seems to be sure that there will be no fourth love comeback. “At your request, I would be happy to inform you that Bettina Wulff and Federal President Ad Christian Wulff finally separated a long time ago,” writes the Berlin office of the former head of state of the German Press Agency.

At first the “Bild” newspaper had reported that Bettina Wulff on the North Sea island of Sylt could be seen with another man. The 51-year-old did not want to comment on “Bild”. A DPA request to Bettina Wulff initially remained unanswered.

The ups and downs of the Wulffs marriage was always accompanied by great media interest. In 2008 the then prime minister of Lower Saxony married the press officer, celebrated in the Schlosshotel Münchhausen near Aerzen in the Weserbergland. It was the second marriage for the CDU politician. Shortly afterwards the son Linus was born. Bettina Wulff brought an adult son to the relationship. Christian Wulff has an adult daughter from his first marriage.

Two months ago, Christian and Bettina Wulff visited the funeral service for the late former Federal President Horst Köhler in the Berlin Cathedral. It is unclear whether they were no longer a couple at the time. Wulff’s office manager does not comment on the exact circumstances of the separation that has now become public. “Privately stays private,” she comments.

The civil wedding on March 18, 2023 in Hanover-Herrenhausen also confirmed the Federal President AD office at the time. “It was a very nice celebration,” it said. The Wulffs had approached again during the pandemic. “We live together,” said Bettina Wulff 2021 on the edge of a benefit golf tournament of the “Neue Presse”. Because of the Corona pandemic, Christian Wulff spent a lot of time at home.

Before and after the Intermezzo as presidential couple, the celebrity couple lived mostly in Burgwedel near Hannover, where Bettina Wulff grew up. The Osnabrück native was voted Federal President on June 30, 2010 rather surprisingly at the age of only 51. His socially committed, always radiant wife caused a sensation: a young mother, basketball player and tattoo wearer as presidential wife in Bellevue Castle.

Wulff resigned as Federal President on February 17, 2012. The reason was an investigation on suspicion of acceptance. In 2013 Christian and Bettina Wulff separated and submitted the divorce. At the beginning of 2014, the ex-Federal President was acquitted by all allegations by the Hanover Regional Court. In May 2015, their lawyers said that the Wulffs were again a couple after a good two years. This was sealed with a church wedding. A civil wedding was not necessary because they had stopped the divorce.

But the second attempt also failed. Bettina Wulff describes in her book “differently than expected: how I learn what really matters”, that she felt torn internally in 2018 and that the separation from her husband was inevitable. The divorce followed. Betina Wulff appeared publicly with her new partner, a music teacher. When this relationship failed, there was a restart with Christian Wulff.
