The video shows Lorde walking and riding a bicycle through New York City, and includes images of one of the advances: an improvised performance in Washington Square Park on Tuesday, which he announced on social networks, but that abruptly canceled when the park was filled with people. Finally, it left two hours after the scheduled start time and was recorded dancing to the rhythm of a recording of the song.

“What was that” is the first great launch of the singer in almost four years, after “Solar Power” of 2021. However, its popularity has reached a high level in recent months due, in part, to its collaboration with Charli XCX, “Girl, so confusing”in which both artists solve some personal misunderstandings about the lyrics of the song.
Lorde played the song with Charli at Madison Square Garden in New York last autumn and in the first weekend of the Coachella Festival earlier this month.
