After being nominated in 1994 for “The Piano Lesson” and losing to steven spielberg (“Schindler’s List”), Campion scored his second nomination for Best Direction and will once again compete with the director of “Love Without Barriers” that -for the eighth time- remains in that category, triumphing twice.
The other contenders for Best Director are Paul Thomas Anderson (in his third nomination in the category), Ryūsuke Hamaguchi Y Kenneth Branghwho with “Belfast” became the first person to achieve nominations in seven different categories throughout his career (Best Film, Short, Direction, Original and Adapted Screenplay, Actor and Supporting Actor).

The Japanese “Drive my Car”, by Hamaguchi, will seek to replicate the success of the South Korean “Parasites” (2019) after obtaining nominations in the same main categories and being the exception of non-English language film nominated for Best Picturewhich quickly made it the film with the most presence from Japan in the history of the awards.
The other contenders for the main award are “The Power of the Dog”, “Duna”, “Belfast”, “Love Without Barriers”, “Licorice Pizza”, “King Richard”, “CODA”, “The Alley of Lost Souls” Y “Don’t look up”.
