First pope burial, then charity bike races: The Monegasque couple had a contrast program at the weekend.
Sport has always played a major role in Prince Albert II (67). He is said to have tried 14 sports and took part as a bob pilot in five Winter Olympics. On Sunday, the Monegassian head now swung on the saddle for a charity bike race. He was cheered on by his wife, Princess Charlène (47). Just a day earlier, the couple had a much more serious occasion in the schedule. They were one of the many European Royals who attended the funeral service for Pope Francis (1936-2025) on St. Peter’s Square.
Albert II. The last ten kilometers cycled
For the 11th charity race Cocc Ride, the prince put on a light blue jersey and drove the final route between Baulieu-sur-Mer and Monaco. The bike race is organized by the unofficial cycling club “Champagne & Oyster Cycling Club of Monaco”, “especially in favor of the Princess Charlène Foundation”.
So the princess had twice the reason to cheer on her husband and afterwards to be happy with him about the successfully traveled kilometers. While Albert shone in the cameras in sports clothes and white caps, Charlène caught the eye with a completely black outfit.
More than 100 participants
The charity race has been organized since 2011. The proceeds go to the Fürstin foundation, but also the “My Name’5 Doddie” research foundation. The participants not only have to cover the 140 kilometers between Saint-Tropez and Monaco by bike, but are also asked to donate a contribution of at least 1,000 euros. Prince Albert II rose to his bike in Baulieu-sur-Mer, ten kilometers from Monaco and accompanied the more than 100 participants to the principality.
