Urte Blankenstein, better known as “Ms. Puppendoktor Pille”, was among the favorites on GDR television. Now she has died.
From 1968 to 1988 the actress Urte Blankenstein (1943-2025) gave children advice on GDR television as “Ms. Puppendoktor Pille”. She died on Sunday (April 27) at the age of 81. This was confirmed by her son Mathias. The GDR star died after a short, serious illness in a hospital in his adopted home in Berlin.
She fell asleep peacefully
The magazine quotes Blankenstein’s son with the words: “Mutti once said to me: If I can no longer appear, I no longer want to live. ‘ She has now practically fulfilled this wish by falling asleep peacefully. “
The actress shaped generations of young GDR citizens in the children’s program. Finally, she appeared in her famous role “Ms. Puppendoktor Pille”, among others in old people’s homes. “Just to arouse memories in people,” she reported in 2022 the “Superillu”. “Because they are often demented. I always have a pittiplatsch with me – a self -crocheted from a fan.”
Even for her 80th birthday on December 21, 2023, she performed in the cultural role in the Schönweide in Berlin. Then a surprise party rose in the Adlershofer Fund, in which the figure skating legend Christine Stüber-Anerrath (68) took part.
Fictional consultation in the “evening greeting”
The figure “Ms. Puppendokor Pille with the big round glasses” embodied Urte Blankenstein for 20 years from 1968 to 1988 once a week in the GDR show “Evening Green”. She reported from a fictional consultation and gave the young spectators tips for various topics such as nutrition, health or games. Around 1,500 programs were produced with her. From 1970 she also embodied the popular figure during live performances.
In addition to her son, Blankenstein leaves a granddaughter.
