Hundreds of fans scream while the three musicians accept the honor. Rock icons have finally become rock icons from the school friends of once. Even Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds (48) joined the laudators.
Special honor for the punk
Outside jubilation cry open when Steve Nissen, CEO of the cover of the marble star. Singer Billie Joe Armstrong (53) kisses the star lovingly. Drummer Tré Cool even lies down on the star and thus proves his affection. The three musicians from Green Day did it: from school friends from the eighties to the superstars of their time. It was the 2810th star badge that was awarded on the Walk of Fame. And one that honors the punk and the performance of the California band in a special way.
From school friends to punk icons
When the punk movement seemed dead in the late 1980s, Armstrong and his school friend, guitarist Mike Dirnt (52), founded the band. In 1994 they celebrated their worldwide breakthrough with their album “Dookie” and brought the punk back to the musical world map. Now it has even made it on the glittering Walk of Fame. Armstrong said on Thursday evening and joked that it felt like his funeral. He dedicated the star to his mother. Dirnt’s message to all Green-Day fans: “Never forget where you come from.”
Reynolds as the “modern face of punk”
In addition to numerous other laudators, Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds also spoke. He self -deprived himself as a “modern face of the punk” and Green Day as the “only child of Doris Day”. Then he reported about an experience during a shoot for “Deadpool & Wolverine” 2024 in London. Sitting in a café, the Green-Day song “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” led to a sense of community among all café guests and suddenly changed the mood. As a result, Reynolds made sure that the song would get a special place in the soundtrack of the film. Green Day stands for joint youth experiences as well as for constant musical vision, says Reynolds.
