Many people, including Hannes Jaenicke, have lost their houses at the forest fires in California. He remembers.
Thousands of people lost their home in the devastating forest fires in southern California at the beginning of the year, especially around Los Angeles. Hannes Jaenicke’s house (65) was also destroyed. The German-American actor remembers that he has no reason to whine “compared to many others.
Hannes Jaenicke about his “Letting Letting Less”
“I remember something that is still burned every day,” says Jaenicke. In addition to the house, his “beloved motorcycle”, his books or collected works of art were destroyed. Above all, the loss of personal things was apparently difficult for him. He had lost “a few ideal values that really hurt me”, including letters from his mother and grandmother. However, Jaenicke sees it as a “lesson in letting go”: “We are constantly losing something or anyone. Things that are important to you. His parents. The best friends or a great love.”
The actor is aware that it has caught others much worse than it. He just got on a plane to Germany and could return to his home in Bavaria, Los Angeles was his second home. He didn’t have to sleep in a gym like many others. “I have neighbors who still live on boats from friends with their children,” he says. Another family only bought her house last year and was indebted to it. You would have lost everything. “This is a hard fate, not mine,” says Jaenicke.
At least 29 people were killed in the fires broken out in early January, thousands of houses were destroyed. Numerous celebrities were also affected. Paris Hilton (44) published a news program that also showed pictures of her destroyed house in Malibu. “We created so many valuable memories in this house,” she wrote. Billy Crystal (77) and his wife: “Janice and I have lived in our house since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every centimeter of our house was full of love. Nice memories that you can’t take away.”
