Great Britain celebrated the end of the Second World War 80 years ago for four days. A military parade starts – under the eyes of the royal family.
With a pompous military parade, Great Britain has initiated the multi-day celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.
Before the eyes of King Charles III. (76), Queen Camilla (77) as well as Prince William (42), Princess Kate (43) and her children Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (10) and Prince Louis (7) hundreds marched uniformed over the boulevard The Mall in the center of London.
At the beginning of this year’s parade, the actor Timothy Spall read the then victory speech by Churchill. “Do not give in to violence and tyranny, march straight and die in an undefined manner when it is necessary,” said Spall on parliamentary place.
In addition to around a thousand soldiers of the British armed forces, around 50 military people from the NATO partner states also marched in the parade. In addition, eleven soldiers from Ukraine took part who swiveled their state flag. The inclusion of the Ukrainians in the parade was a sign of solidarity with the Ukraine, which has been excessive by the Russian attack war for more than three years.
Queen Elizabeth II once mingled with celebrating
Subsequently, military aircraft thundered over the Buckingham Palace, while the royals greeted the festively decorated balcony. Tens of thousands of onlookers had gathered in front of the residence lock and cheered the royal family.
Similar scenes took place on May 8, 1945. The Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022, once revealed that she had mixed undeterred under the celebrants as a 19-year-old princess after appearances on the balcony. “It was one of the most memorable evenings in my life,” she said later.
British royals: renewed quarrels with Prince Harry
The start of the anniversary celebrations of new quarrels with the renegade Prince Harry (40) was overshadowed. He had given the BBC an interview only days before, in which he regretted regret the ongoing dispute with the Royal Family-and on the other hand.
He had previously lost a legal process for the right to personal protection for himself and his family. Behind it, he senses a conspiracy of the royal family and the attempt to bring him back to his orbit.
Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan (43) left the closer circle of the Royal Family five years ago. They now live with their children Prince Archie, who celebrates his sixth birthday on Tuesday, and Princess Lilibet (3) in the US state of California. Harry states that because of the downgrading of his security status, he could not go to Great Britain without invitation from the royal.
