MET GALA: Naomi Campbell and LeBron James do not come

A few hours before the Met Gala started, Naomi Campbell (54) and LeBron James (40) each cancel their participation in the venerable event in New York.

The Los Angeles Lakers basketball star actually wanted to give his Met Gala debut this year. Lebron James had contracted a sprain on the left knee at the end of April in the game against Minnesota Timberwolves. However, his wife, Savannah James (38), who the athlete described on X as his “beautiful, powerful queen”, will take part in the event.

In addition to James, a real fashion icon will also be missing on the fashion event this year: Naomi Campbell. Even later than the professional athlete, the top model shared that she would not come.

Campbell, who should have been in the clinch for a long time with “Vogue” boss Anna Wintour (75), praised this year’s event in her text with the words: “It testifies how black dandyism shaped fashion and how fashion for black people was to express itself and to say its power.” Campbell also wrote that she was honored to have been invited to the “big event”, but unfortunately will not make it. British media previously claimed that Wintour had unloaded Campbell. She did not give one reason for her cancellation.

The fashion oscars, as the event is also called, are concentrating on men’s fashion and the color black this year. In the new exhibition of the museum, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity”, clothing, paintings or photographs, which show the style of black dandyism from the 18th century to this day.
