Friedrich Merz did not reach a majority in the first round. His family also followed this on site.
CDU boss Friedrich Merz (69) failed on Tuesday in the first ballot in the chancellor election. He received six votes less than needed in a secret vote. This historical bankruptcy had to watch the family of Merz. His wife Charlotte Merz followed the choice with his daughters Constanze Merz and Carola Clüsener. The three women sat in blue outfits in the grandstand in the Bundestag. While Charlotte Merz presented himself in a bright blue tone, the two daughters had appeared in darker ensembles.
A team for over 40 years
Charlotte Merz will now be at the side of her husband, the two have been a well -coordinated team for over 40 years. Friedrich Merz and his later wife are said to have met during his law studies in Bonn. The couple married a short time later in 1981. Charlotte Merz is now a judge and director of the Arnsberg district court. She has a son and two daughters with her husband. According to media reports, Constanze Merz works as a doctor, Carola Clüsener as a lawyer. Philippe Merz, who was apparently not in the Bundestag, is the managing director and co-founder of the Thales Academy for Applied Philosophy.
There will be no second ballot for Friedrich Merz this Tuesday. It is not yet known whether his family will be on site at a new appointment that will take place in the coming days.
