Diana Ross celebrates Met-Gala-comeback: Your train has a special meaning

Disco icon Diana Ross (81) celebrated a spectacular comeback on the blue carpet of the most important fashion event of the year at the Met Gala 2025. Accompanied by her son Evan Ross (36) she walked in a glittering robe, which, especially due to her very long train, attracted his eyes over the stages of the Metropolian Museum of Modern Art in New York. Behind her a team of helpers who supported them to properly put the 5.5 meter long train.

The couture outfit comes from the hands of the Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie in collaboration with her son. The magnificent white dress was over and over with crystals, pearls and feathers. In an interview, Ross revealed that she hadn’t planned to visit the Met Gala this year. “That was not the plan! Everything happened at the last moment,” said Ross. “My son persuaded me because I’m on tour. He said: ‘Mom, you have to go!”

In addition, she said that the train was not only a spectacular eye -catcher, but also an emotional importance for her. “The names of all my children and my eight grandchildren are embroidered on the train.” The embroidered names include those of their own children – Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Ross and Evan – as well as those of their eight grandchildren Raif, Callaway, Everlee, Leif, Indigo, Jagger, Bronx and Ziggy. This added Diana Ross that the hat -belonging hat was a challenge for her in particular: “I had to be very careful with my hat because my head is quite big.”

Her daughter Traceee Ellis Ross (52) was also a guest at the Met Gala. She explained to the reporters why her mother attracts so much attention: “My mother lasts time. Obviously, she stops when you look at her. And if she appears at an event like this – because she never goes out – it is a show stopper.” On Monday evening, Diana Ross visited the Met Gala for the fifth time in her eventful life. For the first time she visited the renowned fashion event in 1978, most recently she was in a bright red Gucci dress in 2003.

The most important event in the fashion industry takes place every year on the first Monday in May in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The fashion oscars, as the event is also called, focused on men’s fashion and the color black this year. In the new exhibition of the museum, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity”, clothing, paintings or photographs, which show the style of black dandyism from the 18th century to this day.
