Nostalgie: “Yps” is 50 years old – anniversary band planned

The cult magazine “YPS” is 50 years old and brought back from the sinking. A special issue for the anniversary should be released on September 4, the Egmont Ehapa publisher said.

In 1975 “YPS” came onto the market as a children’s magazine with many comics in West Germany. The trademarks were the peculiar toys or surprises that are side dishes. The makers shaped the word “Gimmick”, which is now even in the Duden (“the or the”).

These countless different gimmicks included, for example, so-called primeval crabs, which could be poured into an aquarium as a powder and which then awakened. There was “the trick box”, with which you could make small items disappear. And there was also “the detective glasses with the spy mirrors”, which at least partially showed the wearer what happened behind his back.

The “Yps” anniversary booklet is aimed at adults who – according to the publisher – “grew up with” Yps “and want to reminisce”. The promise of the authors: “With its fans, the magazine makes a nostalgic journey through time to past children’s days and revives classic” YPS “comics. Of course, the output is a new” YPS “gimmick and another surprise extent,” says the message.

Communists had invented the model

“With” YPS “has grew up an entire generation. The anniversary edition is our homage to the fans with whom we will celebrate the unique” YPS “experience,” says Jörg Risken, publishing Director Magazines at Egmont Ehapa Media.

“Yps” – founded based on the model of a communist youth magazine from France – appeared in the Federal Republic from 1975 to 2000. At the best times in the 1970s and 1980s, “YPS” had more than 400,000 copies, long before it was finally stopped.

Since then there have been new editions and special editions every few years. The “YPS” magazine with the output number 1284 appears with a circulation of 80,000 copies.
