Arabella Kiesbauer is “not boring”

The talk show legend is back: Arabella Kiesbauer promises more drama and intensive discussions in “Fight of Reality Stars”.

In the 90s she inspired an audience of millions with her talk show “Arabella”, now Arabella Kiesbauer (56) celebrates her big comeback on German television. From May 7, the moderation legend will take over the scepter of Cathy Hummels (37) at “Fight of Reality Stars” (Wednesdays at 8:15 p.m. at RTLZWEI, one week). In Thailand, she meets candidates such as the actor Stephen Dürr and Anouschka Renzi, football star Ailton and drama guarantee Can Kaplan, all of whom hope for the successor to last year’s winner Calvin Kleinen.

In her new task, Arabella Kiesbauer benefits her many years of experience with turbulent situations, as the Viennese native reveals in an interview with Spot on News – the better for her that she was able to escape the everyday dramas with her teenage children at least temporarily. She also explains why she would never move into the “Sala” herself – and which candidate would have fit perfectly in a consequence of her cult show “Arabella”.

In “Fight of Reality Stars”, “broadcast time” is the unofficial currency. How much are you happy that you will get your broadcast time again?

Arabella Kiesbauer: I love the format. The show irritated me – I screamed right away: I’m there! And with great enthusiasm. And I used my broadcast time well. Of course, this is also the be -all and end -all for reality stars: that they deliver that they entertain the spectators. Of course, this includes generating a broadcast time.

How much did you miss the drama in your life?

Kiesbauer: Sometimes I am a drama queen myself – so I am also responsible for one or the other drama. (laughs) Then I have two pubescent children at home, so we have a lot of drama at the moment. But yes, on a broadcast, of course, I’m already one who likes to ask and drill. And also like to work up conflicts again.

Speaking of family: How was it for you to be separated from your loved ones for the filming?

Kiesbauer: After it is sometimes very turbulent due to puberty, it was actually very pleasant. (laughs) But three and a half weeks without a family is long – I was very lacking the kids.

On Instagram you can see that they enjoyed the weeks very much in Thailand …

Kiesbauer: The point is, I was allowed. That is why it looks like I really only went on vacation for three and a half weeks. The appearance is deceptive! (laughs) The filming was really wonderful and the people loved with heart – but it was also work. You can only see that on TV. But you have to enjoy life and celebrate the festivals as they fall.

Have you followed “Struggle of Reality Stars” yourself in recent years?

Kiesbauer: I am a big reality fan and watch many different formats from different countries. I generally look a lot away – I am the generation that is still in front of the telly. But what I particularly like in “Fight of Reality Stars” are the games. They are so creative, that has a special charm for me.

They succeed Cathy Hummels. What will you do differently than your predecessor?

Kiesbauer: I am a different guy. I definitely expanded the talk in the “hour of truth”. That is my core competence. If I want to know something, I am curious and really ask very specifically.

Cathy Hummels was partly criticized for her moderation skills. Are you afraid that something similar will happen to you?

Kiesbauer: I’m very relaxed. I have not been doing anything else for 40 years, that’s my job – I know that I can.

You have already experienced a lot in your talk show – can she still get something out of the frame in the reality cosmos?

Kiesbauer: The talk was of course an incredibly good school because I always had to react to what happened. Then I made a lot of live broadcasts – you have to cope with unforeseen situations. But even with these filming – that’s the nice thing, so it won’t get boring – things happened again that I thought: yes, what’s going on now? But you will see that … if someone, for example, refuses to answer the answer, I don’t like that at all.

In an interview, they said that it used to go too far in the talk show. How do you spend the sheet between entertainment and empathy?

Kiesbauer: Certain rules in the course of a well -kept but intensive culture of conversation just have to be followed. I am there to enforce this. I have no problem to knock on the counter and make it clear.

Who from the “fight of the reality stars” team would have made it to “Arabella” at the time? And with what story?

Kiesbauer: Definitely Can: “My ex cheated me.” Or: “I meet my ex” flirting buddy today “. Everything about the dramatic relationship with his ex -girlfriend – that would fit well.

Was there someone you were particularly looking forward to?

Kiesbauer: I was looking forward to seeing Martin Semmelrogge again because I have known him for 25 years. But I’m also curious about the boys. I knew some of the preparation, but not yet personally. It is exciting to see: What are the face-to-face, how do you work in the sala and how will the exchange of talk?

With Tara Tabitha there is also a compatriot of you. Is there a silent Austrian alliance?

Kiesbauer: I am completely neutral. In my opinion, that also belongs as a moderator. Everyone has to impress me all in every show – or not.

Do you have a strategy on how to deal with polarizing personalities?

Kiesbauer: You just have to address that directly and say that it just doesn’t work. I don’t want to hear certain expressions or derailments. Culture of conversation can also be passionate – I’m not a boring one myself. But you don’t have to insult yourself in the worst, that’s not productive. We want to talk to each other and not make sure that an insulted person stands there and cries and can no longer continue.

If you entered the sala yourself, what would be your biggest challenge?

Kiesbauer: I am very unsuitable. In such a narrow space with people who are not now part of my personal circle of friends, that would definitely be the biggest challenge for me. I think the games would be great. I would be there immediately. But I would also give everything. With me you have to be careful not to hurt myself out of sheer commitment. (laughs)

What can fans expect in this “struggle of the reality stars” relay?

Kiesbauer: The absolute madness. It is logical: if so many colorful people who have been dipped together in such a confined space in a flat share in a flat share are forced and sistered, of course that offers a lot of conflict potential. But of course there are also emotional associations. Everything was there. It is certainly an exceptional situation for the reality stars – and therefore also for the spectators.
