Single: If you have less self -esteem, you make more effort into the dating

Most people want a partner, but not all singles put a lot of effort into getting to know a new person. A current study now decrypted what this can be.

Isn’t it often nicer to watch a film in the evening than alone? Isn’t cooking more fun for two people than for you? Being single is not always a joy and many people want a partner for life. But how does it come that some people literally overwhelm themselves in the dating and are really trouble to conquer the new acquaintance and just give someone else a coffee and put on a message a day?

The researchers Menelaos Apostolou, Burcu Tekeş and Antonios Kagialis got the cause of these differences in a study in 2024. 990 Greek and Turkish -born people were asked about the focus of the subject to what extent their own fear influenced their efforts in dating. The study comprised 568 women with an average age of 33.4 years, 412 men who were on average 34.8 years old, six people with a diverse gender and four people without gender. Of the participants, 25.9 percent stated that 20.1 percent were involuntarily single, 19.3 percent married, 18.7 percent in a relationship, 12.0 percent voluntarily single, and 4.0 percent classified their relationship status as “different”.

Is the fear of being single to do with the dating effort? The researchers asked

Then the researchers interviewed the participants after the effort previously held in the search for long -term relationships. With a scale from 1 to 5, you should classify the following statements for yourself:

  • If I am alone at the end of my life, I will probably have the feeling that something is wrong with me.
  • The thought of staying single forever gives me fear.
  • Loneliness scares me.
  • It scares me not to have an intimate partner at my side.
  • It scares me to be single.

Based on the evaluations, the study confirmed what the researchers had suspected as a thesis in advance. If you are afraid of being single, you are also trying to find a partner.

Relationship study study
Researchers found that the tears of a woman lower the male aggression level

People who are afraid of loneliness seem to invest more efforts, activities and contact in dating. Conversely, the researchers were able to verify that someone who is voluntary single and has no fears of being alone does not necessarily want to stay alone, but due to the lack of fear, less intensive efforts strive to get to know. There were no differences between the sexes.

Another knowledge of the researchers derived from the self -esteem of the participants. By re -classification on a scale with statements such as “I have the feeling that I don’t have much, which I can be proud”, they evaluated the self -esteem of the people interviewed. It was shown that there is a direct connection between the factors: People with higher self -esteem are safer in finding and keeping a partner, which reduces their fear of being alone. Therefore, they invest less time and effort in the dating.

In conclusion, it can be summarized, who invests more effort in the introductory process and the dating as a single, is not automatically interested in the other person. It may also be that they are simply afraid to stay alone and not have the greatest self -esteem.
