James Foley became known with a thriller, filmed two parts of the trilogy “Fifty Shades of Gray” and several episodes of “House of Cards”. Now he has died.
US director James Foley, who, among other things, was shooting the star-occupied drama “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “Fifty Shades of Gray” continuation. Foley was 71 years old. “James Foley was not only a talented director, but also a close friend,” said talent manager Florent Lamy of the “Los Angeles Times” and confirmed the death of the filmmaker.
His last films were the sequels to the erotic strip “Fifty Shades of Gray”-“Dangerous Love” (2017) and “Freed Lust” (2018)-with the main actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. From 2013 to 2015, Foley turned 12 episodes of the TV series “House of Cards” with Kevin Spacey in the leading role.

James Foley got stars in front of the camera
The psychothriller was one of his first successes “at short distance”, which Foley presented in 1986 at the Berlinale. Christopher Walken and Sean Penn play the leading roles as father and son in the gangstermelodram. For pop star Madonna, he staged several music videos and also brought the singer in front of the camera for the comedy “Who’s Girl” (1987).
With stars like Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, Ed Harris and Alan Arkin, he turned the drama “Glengarry Glen Ross” to the hard competition in a Chicago real estate office. In “Fear – when love scares” (1996) Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon took over the leading roles, followed by “Die Kammer” with Chris O’Donnell and Gene Hackman based on a novel by John Grisham. In 2007 Foley staged the thriller “Seduction of a stranger” with Bruce Willis and Halle Berry.
