The Spanish royal family congratulates the new Pope Leo XIV and is particularly moved by its peace call for the election.
With warm words and deep recognition, the Spanish royal family congratulated the freshly elected Pope Leo XIV (69) on his appointment. the royal house was enthusiastic about the first appearance of the 267th Pontifex on the central loggia of St. Peter’s cathedral.
“We congratulate Cardinal Prevost on his choice as a new Pontifex, Pope Leo XIV.” The royal family was particularly impressed by the peace message of the new church overhead: “His call to peace inspires us, encourages us and reflects the deep wish and feelings of the Spanish people.”

At his first appearance, the new Pope Leo XIV also reminded of his predecessor and called on “the weak but always courageous voice of Pope Francis in our ears”.
