Lemmy Kilmister is considered the icon of the hard rock. Almost ten years after his death, a monument in his hometown is unveiled in his honor. That attracts many fans.
The British musician Lemmy Kilmister from the heavy metal band Motörhead (“Ace of Spades”, “Killed by Death”) was honored in his home town of Stoke-on-Trent with a monument. According to the “Stoke Sentinel” newspaper, the statue designed by the sculptor Andy Edwards also contains ashes from the rock legend, who died in 2015.
Hundreds of fans, many with Motörhead-T-shirts, and bikers gathered in the Burslem district to solemn the sculpture and celebrated their idol in the local pubs. The former Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell and the mayor of Burslem, Lyn Sharpe, held a speech.
The musician was born in Burslem as Ian Fraser Kilmister in 1945. In 1971 he joined the hard rock band Hawkwind as a bass player. In 1975 he founded Motörhead and also took over the singing. The group became one of the most influential heavy metal bands and Lemmy a cult figure. They also performed several times with the Wacken Open Air. Kilmister died in Los Angeles on December 28, 2015, four days after his 70th birthday.
