Jennifer Weist should present her new book in the “NDR Talk Show”. Then it was unloaded by the broadcaster at short notice.
Jennifer Weist (38) spoke in several Instagram statements about their invitation or loading from the “NDR Talk Show”. In the format, the front woman of the band Jennifer Rostock should apparently present her new book “Naked – my life between the lines” on Friday evening. Shortly before the appointment, it was probably unloaded by the broadcaster.
Short -term cancellation
“As part of the doctorate by the ‘NDR Talk Show’, I was invited to today’s show to talk about the content of my book,” reports Weist.
Since the cancellation was only issued about a week ago, it now has no way to advertise her book otherwise.
Jennifer shows the educational mandate of public law
What is particularly outraged is the reason for the broadcaster. “The ‘NDR Talk Show’ let me tell me from my publisher that they now dealt closely with the topics I addressed in my book and that unfortunately these topics would not fit in so well in such a talk show,” she quoted the cancellation.
In her book, the singer addresses her childhood in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, experiences with right-wing extremist ideologies as well as sexual violence, misogynia and abuse of power in the music industry. These topics had been known long before, says Weist, and emphasizes the contractually defined mandate of the public television station: “The NDR has an educational mandate. The people in charge seem to forget that.”
According to Jennifer, the NDR continued to justify its decision on request that these topics could not be justified in their speaking time of about 15 minutes. No argument for her: “If you continue to talk about socially relevant topics in the future and thus no longer contribute to the education or opinion formation in society, then you break the contract that you have put up,” said the 38-year-old.
Sender offers alternatives
The NDR has now responded to the criticism. In a statement under Weists Instagram-Post confirmed the broadcaster: “After reading the still unpublished book, the editorial team found that the many very personal and difficult topics in the intended time frame of around 15 minutes cannot be treated appropriately. The setting and the guest mix were perceived as inappropriate for the important topics.”
As an alternative, the broadcaster offered an appearance in the “Deep and clearly” format, which “is very strong on the Internet” and “give difficult topics the better framework”. In addition, there is already an agreed individual appearance on “Das! – Red Sofa” on July 16, “where there is also significantly more time available for the topics”.
“No adequate replacement”
In the meantime, Jennifer has contacted this comment and referred to him as “cheek”. “You don’t say a single word about what it may be about that you secure the exclusive rights before you have even dealt with the content of my book,” it says. Lack of time and the mix of guest are “flimsy reasons”. The NDR bears “the responsibility” that Weism’s voice is heard – “Deep and clearly” is “not an adequate replacement” due to the other audience and the broadcast time. In addition, her publisher had already requested the format, but received a cancellation at the time. “Do you know what I expect from you, love ‘NDR Talk Show’?
