After a serious bike accident: Jan Ullrich shares picture from a hospital bed
Fans fear for cycling legend Jan Ullrich after he was hit by a car on Friday. Now the 51-year-old gives the all-clear.
On Friday, the reporting Germans shocked sports-loving Germans that the only German tour of France winner Jan Ullrich, 51, was so far in a serious bike accident. If he was approached by a car during the training near his place of residence, a broken collarbone suffered, among other things.
Now Ullrich has. He explains to be “in the best hands and on the way of improvement”. In addition, the 51-year-old shares a picture of himself in the hospital bed, on which he optimistically stretches his thumb up.

“Dear cycling fans, yes it is true, I was hit by a car yesterday during training,” Ullrich begins his contribution in an Instagram story. The Olympic champion of 2000 thanks for “your many great news and recovery wishes”. These would have “really delighted him”.
Then Ullrich announces that it would probably talk about his accident in detail in his “Ulle & Rick” podcast. He also confirms his appearance at the “Jan Ullrich Cycling Festival” in Bad Dürrheim in the Black Forest on May 17th and 18th, despite his serious accident. “We’ll see you at the latest next weekend!” He writes at the end of his story.
In addition to Ullrich, many former companions such as Udo Bölts or Andreas Klöden as well as opponents such as Lance Armstrong, Mario Cipollini or Bradley Wiggins are expected. Because of his accident, Ullrich had had to cancel his participation in the Velo Club from Eurosport this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, live shows were planned on the sports channel after the stages of the legendary Giro d’Italia.
Jan Ullrich is one of the greatest German cyclists of all time. In 1997 he was the only German to win the Tour de France. He also won the gold medal in individual time trial at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and became world champion a total of twice.
