Miriam Pielhau had 50th birthday: the moderator is remembered

She turned only 41 – and yet lived longer than feared. Miriam Pielhau (1975-2016) not only made a name for herself as a presenter of programs such as “Taff” and “Big Brother”, but also as a strong fighter against cancer. In spring 2008 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she dealt with openly and dealt with many appearances for other affected people.

She initially defeated the disease and was considered healed. In March 2016, however, she announced that she was again ill with cancer in 2015 – this time on the liver. Officially, she was again considered recovered in this case. In mid -March 2016, Pielhau explained in an interview with the news agency spot on news: “I always had one sentence in my heart: dying is not an option.” At that time, she also said that she did not deal with death: “I regulated my things. I did not give more space to this topic. I thought that the more I let it into my life, the wider and greater the power that this death can have. I have focused on life and survival.”

Especially for her daughter, who was born in 2012, she absolutely wanted to be strong. Miriam Pielhau told the “Bild” newspaper four months before her death: “I was and am not yet finished with this life – I have this child. I want to see her big.”

Unfortunately, she was not granted the fulfillment of this great wish. When she died, Mina was just four years old. Since then she has lived with her father, the musician Thomas Hanreich (53). Pielhau married him in Las Vegas in March 2003. The separation became known in June 2013 – also a severe cut for the moderator who had to deal with some fates. In 2004 the couple barely survived the tsunami in Thailand. Natural disaster, illness, separation – “now enough has happened,” Pielhau summed up the interruptions in her life.

When she died of the consequences of cancer on July 12, 2016, the news of Germany triggered deep horror. After all, Pielhau stood for hope like hardly any other, and again and again she appealed to other people affected: “We can do it.” Only weeks earlier, the cheerful moderator had also shown herself glamorous in Vienna. At the “Leading Ladies Awards” she was awarded on June 21 in the “Health” category for her commitment to cancer. She supported the German Cancer Aid Foundation for several years together with Sylvie Meis (47) and published two books on the subject (“Foreign Body” 2011 and “Dr. Hope: The history of a real miracle” 2016).

And almost nine years after her much too early death, people think of them and. Emotional messages can be read there again and again – as “just thought of you, Miriam” or “You are unforgettable”. A followers let me know a few months ago: “I named my daughter after you and I will not stop telling her how wonderful you were here on earth and will still be with God as an angel.”

May 12, where Pielhau would have turned 50, will now mark a day that many people think of the brave TV star, especially. Among them are certainly some celebrities who expressed their grief so numerous in 2016. At that time, actor Til Schweiger wrote on Facebook about a picture of the moderator: “Life is not fair …!” Moderator Pinar Atalay emphasized: “She fought it like this, I’m so sorry!” Comedian Oliver Kalkofe was shaken: “And again a stitch into the heart, again I struggle for words and again I sit in front of the keyboard to somehow put the unspeakable shock into words.” And Model Monica Meier-Ivancan posted: “Miri you were an angel on earth. Sometimes life is not fair.”

Pielhaus Best friend, moderator Eva Imhof (46), remembered the moment in a long emotional contribution to the moment when she received the sad news: “I will never forget how I was sitting in the car a year ago and hitting my steering wheel loudly. Since you are no longer there, Miri has changed.” However, she tries to be strong: “Because you have always been strong. Even in the deepest depths of your life, you have still walked through the world with your incomparably radiant smile. You are and will remain my role model. And if we all take you a role model, we can make the world a little better.”
