Liliana Matthäus is the mother of a daughter today. In the interview, she reveals why she continues to be called Matthew after divorce.

Although Lothar Matthäus’s divorce was 14 years ago, his ex-wife Liliana still has his famous last name. The now 37 -year -old now revealed her reasons for this – and they are surprisingly pragmatic.

“I grew up in such a way that you keep the name. Until you may get married again,” Liliana explains in an interview to continue to go through life as a “Matthew”. The German last name is simply more practical for them than its original Russian name Tschudinova, which is much more complicated. In addition, she emphasizes: “And all other ex-women continue to bear his name.”

With her past, Liliana has long since made peace. The Ukrainian native has been living in Milan for three years – together with her partner and her three -year -old daughter Gigi. “We are fine, the little one is doing great, she grows and thrives,” reports the proud mother. The little gigi apparently already steps into her mother’s footsteps. “We just shot her first campaign for an Italian brand,” reveals Liliana.

New surname in sight?

But Liliana Matthäus will soon become Liliana White. With a view to her current partner, she indicates that a name change is quite possible – even if her friend is currently “very married to work”, as she notes with a smile.

When she met the then 46-year-old football star in 2007 at just 19 years, both became the favorite couple of the tabloid. Despite all the scandals and negative headlines during her marriage, Liliana looks back on this phase of her life positively. “I had a great time and everything was very exciting,” she recalls. Ultimately, they would have made the many negative reports stronger.

She continues to have good contact with her ex-husband. “We talk a lot about our children and how everyone is in life. And we help each other when we need it!” She reveals the relationship with Lothar Matthäus. Liliana is visibly moved when it comes to her Ukrainian homeland. The ongoing war is very stressful. Particularly painful: so far she has not been able to visit her grandmother’s grave, which died shortly after the start of the war.

“We didn’t even tell her that there was war again. She was already dying,” she says sadly. She particularly regretted that her grandmother could no longer get to know her little daughter. “My greatest wish is that the war will soon be over. I pray for God!” Said Liliana.
