Despite boycott calls, Israel’s ESC candidate Yuval Raphael remains optimistic: With her song “New Day Will Rise”, she wants to set a sign of hope and cohesion.
Israel’s candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest is confident despite boycott calls. “I am here with a clear goal: to bring hope,” said Yuval Raphael in an interview with the “Welt”. Her new song “New Day Will Rise” should contribute to this: “He stands for healing through hope, connection and mutual understanding.”
Political tensions and boycott calls against Israel did not pass her without a trace: “There were really some difficult moments that felt uncomfortable and worrying,” said Raphael. But she has a strong team and the mission to “perform the best performance and to represent my country worthy”. For the support that you also receive from Germany, among other things, she is very grateful. “All of this is never a matter of course.”
According to the 24-year-old, the 24-year-old has prepared intensively for the performance. “I practiced daily for four months – mentally and physically,” she said. She gets support in particular from her mother, who also accompanied her to the ESC in Basel. The competition starts on Tuesday with the first semi -finals.
