Shaun White, one of the greatest snowboarders of all time, ends his active career. The American is in a relationship with actress Nina Dobrev – and she makes a touching declaration of love for the 35-year-old on Instagram.
US snowboard pro Shaun White has shaped the sport like no other over the past two decades. He took part in the Olympic Games five times and won the gold medal in the halfpipe three times. At the Beijing Games, he finished fourth, just missing another medal.
White had already announced last week that he would end his active career after the Winter Games in China. The 35-year-old was correspondingly emotional after his last run. “It will take me some time to settle into my new life but I’m looking forward to it. I hope to help the next generation. I want to pass on my knowledge and experience to the best riders. It’s going to be tough for me to take on this new role, but I will embrace it with open arms.”

He gets support from his girlfriend, US actress Nina Dobrev. White and the actress known from the series “Vampire Diaries” have been in a relationship since the beginning of 2020. She followed the snowboard competitions with numerous friends and family members in the USA in front of the television. On her Instagram account, Dobrev published several photos in a story showing her in US team outfits. The 33-year-old also posted a declaration of love and called White the “greatest friend of all time”.

Nina Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria and grew up in Canada, is quite a passable snowboarder herself, as she also documents on her Instagram account. “I’m trying to keep up,” she commented, racing down the slopes and doing small jumps. With Shaun White she has the best teacher at her side.
