Robert de Niro was honored for his life’s work at the opening of Cannes Film Festival. Colleagues Leonardo DiCaprio congratulates.

The Cannes International Film Festival has started and the opening ceremony is directly coming up with the A-Liga of the Hollywood actors. Leonardo DiCaprio (50) presented colleague Robert de Niro (81) on Tuesday evening the Palm of Honor for his life’s work.

The Oscar winner thanks to “like a wild bull” and “The Godfather – Part II” is a real Cannes veteran and even chaired the jury in 2011 when the Golden Palme went to Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life”. Today de Niro was given the honorary prize from an old friend.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro played together in the film “This Boy’s Life” for the first time in 1993. For “Killers of the Flower Moon”, the muses of exceptional director Martin Scorsese (82) came back together. The film was presented in Cannes in 2023. When it was announced that de Niro received the prize for his life’s work, he said according to the industry service “Variety” in a explanation: “I have so deep feelings for the Festival of Cannes … especially now that there is so much in the world that is unerring us, Cannes brings us together – storytellers, filmmakers, fans and friends. It is like coming home.” Big words, great effect.

The festival committee explained its choice as follows: “There are faces that stand for seventh art, and dialogue lines that leave indelible traces in the cinephilia. With its internalized style, which comments in a gentle smile or a strict look, Robert de Niro has become a film legend.”
