León de Aranoa won the award for best direction, while Bardem won the award for best male leading actor for his acid portrayal of the manipulative Julio Blanco.
Aranoa’s meticulous work to immerse the viewer under the toxic control of Blanco, who will not hesitate to use all the resources at his disposal to obtain a coveted local award, earned him a record 20 nominations, in addition to highlighting eight of his actors to acting awards.
“The main challenge of directing this film for me was, as Don Julio Blanco would say, the protagonist, not just excellence, but the balance between drama and humor”, León explained from the stage of the Palau de les Arts in Valencia (east), where he had previously gone up to collect the award for best original screenplay.
“The Good Boss” was also the Spanish film that competed in the Oscar preselection for best international film, but that ultimately will not be among the five candidates for the March 27 ceremony in Los Angeles.
