“Schuh des Manitu” most visited German film since 2000
The Western Klamauk “The Shoe of the Manitu” moved almost 12 million fans into cinemas. Can the sequel build on success 24 years later?
The cinema “The Shoe des Manitu” is the German film of the past 25 years, which has so far been most visited in Germany. This emerges from an overview of the Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA) to the top 10 German films with a start from 2000. Accordingly, more than 11.7 million cinema tickets were solved for the comedy of director Michael “Bully” Herbig from 2001.

The FFA had given insight into the German cinema market at the “Kino 2025” cinema fair and has also presented data since 2000. Children’s films are essential for the performance of German film, it said in a message.
With a view to the top 10 of the international films with a start from 2000 in Germany, “The Shoe des Manitu” lands in third place. More visitors counted the fantasy strips “The Lord of the Rings – The Wälts” (about 11.8 million tickets, 2nd place) and “Harry Potter and the Stone of the Wise” (about 12.5 million tickets, 1st place).

With “The Canu des Manitu”, the continuation of the Western Klamau follows in mid-August 24 years later. Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian are there again. For example, as Herbig embodies the role of the “Abahachi” chief in 2025 – where it is now much more sensitive to the representation of indigenous people is being considered.
