Rapper Xatar buried in Bonn: hundreds take goodbye

On Thursday, family, friends and fans finally said goodbye to gangster rapper Xatar, who died last week at the age of 43. His wife Farvah led the funeral procession in the Bonn north cemetery, where the musician found his final resting place. According to the police, almost 1,000 people came to the burial. The burial took place under high security precautions – one last indication of the eventful life of a man who polarized.

According to the report, there were numerous greats of the German rap scene among the mourners: Xatar’s long-standing companions Ssio and Samy were among the coffin carriers. Rapper Schwesta Ewa, whose career Xatar had largely promoted, singer Shirin David, the rapper Massiv, Veysel, Milonair, Eno, Jaceek and Gzuz as well as actors Emilio Sakarya were present, according to media reports. Sakarya had played the leading role in the film “Rheingold” (2022) of director Fatih Akin about the rapper’s life.

As the “Bild” newspaper also reports, Gauwar Hajabi, as Xatar was called, had already been saying goodbye in a mosque after the Islamic rite. As part of the traditional death prayer ceremony, those present prayed for the deceased.

While the Cologne public prosecutor’s office had confirmed that Xatar was found dead in a Cologne apartment on May 8 at around 6.30 p.m., May 7th is given on the gravestone as the day of death. This indicates that the rapper had died for several hours before his body was discovered. The latter date could also be seen on the wooden panel, the Xatars widow at the burial in front of the coffin.

What Xatar died of is not yet known. In recent years he had to struggle with health problems – in 2021 he suffered a stroke. In addition, several of his companies had got into bankruptcy. In 2009 he obtained dubious fame through a van robbery in Ludwigsburg. From 2011 to 2014, he therefore served a prison sentence. According to information from German media, the musician recently worked on new music in the apartment of his business partner, where he was found lifeless.

“We are stunned and in deep grief. Your big heart and musical heritage remain unforgettable and will accompany us forever. You will be with us forever. As a son, as a father, as a husband, as a brother, as an uncle, as a cousin, as a brother-in-law, as a friend and artist”, a farewell greeting from the family can be read for a black and white portrait for a few days. The mourning saying “When we are born, we cry and everyone else laugh. If we die, we laugh and all other cry” added.
