Charles Strouse (1928-2025) is dead: The Tony, Grammy and Emmy award winner, who was known for his Broadway pieces, died at the age of 96. The composer and lyrics died on Thursday in his house in New York City, confirmed by a spokesman for the family.

Strouse, who was born in New York City on June 7, 1928, was mainly famous for his Broadway productions, including his award-winning musicals “Bye Bye Birdie”, “Applause” and “Annie” or works such as “Golden Boy” and “Charlie & Algernon”. His career extended over seven decades.

Charles Strouse also wrote music for Hollywood

The composer also contributed the music for famous films such as “Bonnie and Clyde” with Warren Beatty (88) and Faye Dunaway (84). The film music of “Die Nacht when Minsky flogged” or “Charlie – all dogs come to heaven” comes from him.

In 1985 Charles Strouse was included in the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”. He is also a member of the “Theater Hall of Fame” and was awarded several honorary doctors.

According to US media reports, Strouse leaves his children Benjamin, Nicholas, Victoria and William and eight grandchildren. His wife, the choreographer Barbara Siman, with whom he was married from 1962, died in 2023.
