Things are looking bleak again this year for the carnival on the streets. But with the traditional show “Mainz stays Mainz, how it sings and laughs” it gets colorful again.
Confetti instead of Corona – the ZDF sticks to the television carnival and shows on the Friday before Shrove Monday “Mainz remains Mainz, how it sings and laughs”.
The program will be produced on February 23 under Corona conditions and broadcast two days later, says ZDF entertainment director Oliver Heidemann in an interview with the German Press Agency. The tradition goes back to 1955, since 1973 the show has been produced alternately by SWR and ZDF.
150 people on site
150 people are allowed to attend the production in the Electoral Palace, mainly active people from the four participating corporations Mainzer Carneval-Verein (MCV), Mainzer Carneval Club (MCC), Gonsenheimer Carneval-Verein (GCV) and Karneval-Club Kastel (KCK) . A year ago, most of the seats in the Elferrat were occupied by puppets, this time there is a real committee again.
“We are lucky that more is possible than last year,” says Heidemann. “We can bring a classic session to the stage in compliance with all the requirements.” With the wide range of meaningless “Kokolores” to political-literary handmade speeches as a trademark of the Mainz carnival, a great quality is shown. The final program will be coordinated with the clubs. But “there will also be one or two surprises”.
