After his return from the USA, James Corden flirts with a political career as mayor of London.
Actor and moderator James Corden (46) could take a surprising career turn after his return from the United States. , the “Gavin and Stacey” star is said to have expressed interest in a candidacy for the office of Mayor of London.
Corden, who worked as a host of the “Late Late Show” in Los Angeles for eight years before returning to Great Britain last year, apparently spoke about his political ambitions at the BAFTA award ceremony last Sunday. There he met the moderators of the “Electoral Dysfunction” podcast and betrayed his plans by Sky News Political Boss Beth Rigby, the former deputy Labor Chairman Harriet Harman and the former chairman of the Scottish Conservative, Ruth Davidson.
Enthusiasm for politics
An eyewitness told the British Sunday newspaper: “James told them that he regularly heard their podcast and how much he enjoys the exchange of blows in politics.” According to the informant, Corden has “great respect for those who are exposing and run for an office”.
During the conversation with the podcast hosts, the entertainer was suggested to step into the political arena. “There were talks that he should run as Mayor of London,” continued the source.
The current Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan was first elected in 2016 and was able to win a third term in the past year. It is generally expected to cede Khan 2028, which means that the Labor party has to find a new candidate.
Political engagement already visible
Corden, who is considered a supporter of the Labor Party, has already expressed itself politically in the past. After the conservatives’s landslide in 2019, he criticized the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn and tweeted: “I cannot shake off that if Tom Watson had been chairman of the Labor party, the result could have been completely different.” He also wrote: “Jeremy Corbyn has now lost two elections against opposition candidates who could and should have been beaten.”
The entertainer and his wife Julia returned to Great Britain last year and acquired an £ 11.5 million villa in northwestern London. Corden’s political ambitions could now ensure a new career section of the popular entertainer, who became a crowd favorite due to his role as Smithy in “Gavin and Stacey” in Great Britain and later achieved international celebrity with the “Late Late Show” and whose format “Carpool Karaoke”.
It remains to be seen whether the indicated political ambitions actually become a candidacy. So far, there has been no official statement by James Corden on the reports.
